The project « Anatomy of Ostracism » was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme ”Europe for Citizens” nd implemented in year 2018.

6 events have been carried out within this project:

Event 1

Participation: The event involved 30 citizens, including 15 participants from the city of Helsinki, Joensuu, Tampere, Kokkola (Finland), 15 participants from the city of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kovacica (Serbia).

Location / Dates: The event took place in several venues around the capital area (Helsinki & Espoo) in Finland), from 05/04/2018 to

07/04/2018

Short description: The aim of the event was to build a common ground between Finland and Serbia through identifying and mapping out the root causes threatening social cohesion, and the role of education in building social inclusion and a sense of belonging in our respective societies.

Among some of the questions explored in the workshops are:

• What is the role of education in reproducing the power structures and/or challenging social norms and narratives?

• What competencies do teachers need in order to challenge racist and xenophobic attitudes and behaviour among their students?

• Where and how do they get these competencies, and what are the concrete ways in which we can support them?

Event 2

Participation: The event involved 30 citizens, including 15 participants from the city of Helsinki, Espoo, Turku, Joensuu (Finland), 15

participants from the city of Belgrade, Kovacica, Borča, Kraljevo (Serbia).

Location / Dates: The event took place in Päivölän Virkistyskoti (Vihti, Finland), from 06/06/2018 to 08/06/2018

Short description: The aim of the event was to follow up on the conclusions from the first workshop and equipped the participants with identified skills and competencies needed by teachers and youth workers to foster social inclusion in their working environments. This was done through participatory activities using various methods which the participants could use in their work. This event was held in conjunction with the annual Global Education Summer Days, where teachers in Finland get together to discuss and share about their work related to global education.

Event 3

Participation: The event involved 25 citizens, including 25 participants from the city of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Uzdin, Cuprija, Gornji Milanovac, Cacak, Kraljevo (Serbia).

Location / Dates: The event took place in Hotel Radmilovac (Belgrade, Serbia), from 14/09/2018 to 15/09/2018

Short description: the event gathered 25 teachers to learn from the lessons and outcomes of the previous international events in the project and raise the awareness about the discrimination based on nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and to empower the participants to recognise and react on discrimination in their classrooms.

Event 4

Participation: The event involved 25 citizens, including 25 participants from the city of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Uzdin, Cuprija, Gornji Milanovac, Cacak, Kraljevo (Serbia).

Location / Dates: The event took place in Hotel 88 Rooms (Belgrade, Serbia), from 02/11/2018 to 03/11/2018

Short description: the event gathered 25 teachers to learn from the lessons and outcomes of the previous international events in the project and raise the awareness about the discrimination based on nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and to empower the participants to recognise and react on discrimination in their classrooms.

Event 5

Participation: The event involved 28 participants from the city of Helsinki and neighbouring municipalities (Helsinki, Finland).

Location / Dates: The event took place in Laurea ammattikorkeakoulu (Vantaa, Finland), from 15/11/2018

Short description: the event gathered 25 educators, students and social workers to learn from the lessons and outcomes of the previous international events in the project and raise the awareness about the discrimination based on nationality, religion, ethnicity/race, sexual orientation, gender identity and to empower the participants to recognise and react on discrimination in their organisations, classrooms and society.

Event 6

Participation: The event involved 25 participants from the city of Helsinki and neighbouring municipalities (Helsinki, Finland).).

Location / Dates: The event took place in Rikhardinkatu Library (Helsinki, Finland), from 23/11/2018

Short description: the event gathered 25 teacher trainers, researchers, students, policy makers and civil society activist to learn from the lessons and outcomes of the previous international events in the project and raise the awareness about the discrimination based on nationality, religion, ethnicity/race, sexual orientation, gender identity and to empower the participants to recognise and react on discrimination in their organisations, classrooms and society.
